Craniosacral
Therapy is radical body core transformation. Real
change manifests on two levels physical
and emotional. CST is a noninvasive systemic release
of soft tissue. This technique also initiates
spine decompression resulting in improved neuro-muscular
contact with soft tissue throughout the body.
Emotional impact exists because posture and body
mechanics adapt around repetitious thought forms.
CST releases dysfunctional tissues held in place
by trapped and unresolved emotional patterns.
Bodymind unity is reestablished through CST creating
freedom at all levels of human expression.
Craniosacral Therapy is an advanced
pain management technique. Who is a candidate
for CST? EVERYONE!!! People suffering from a myriad
of conditions such as Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia,
and Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJ)
will find immediate relief from this work. Stress,
strain, and distortion places the body against
itself, challenging our immune system, creating
postural distortion, and organ dysfunction. CST
is a powerful prevention and intervention tool
that instigates healing by working with the bodies
own self corrective process.
How does Craniosacral Therapy work?
Evaluation and treatment is made possible by the
craniosacral rhythm, a subtle yet palpable motion
of the bones that comprise the neuro-cranium and
sacrum. Palpation reveals movement because the
cranium and sacrum attach directly to a membranous
sac called the dural tube. The dural tube contains
cerebral spinal fluid and the central nervous
system. Cerebrospinal fluid is synthesized from
blood. As the amount of CSF increases within the
dural tube, hydraulic pressure pushes fluid up
and down the spinal cord. Pressure on the dural
tube causes flexion and extension of the cranium
and sacrum. |
Craniosacral
evaluation and treatment is a non-invasive manipulative
approach. Five grams of pressure is used to detect
and release areas demonstrating asymmetry. You
might ask How can five grams of pressure
have any therapeutic impact? Answer, Piezoelectric
Principle; a light load applied over time will
cause a visco-elastic medium, such as fascia,
to elongate. Fascia is a tough, rigid, laminated
sheath of connective tissue that lies between
organs, nerves, vessels, and osseous structures
throughout the body. Fascia is also mobile and
works with the brain to maintain good posture
and organ function.
Therapist interface is critical
since fascia has it's own motion plane. Excessive
pressure leads to retention and further distortion
of myofacsia. Conversely, insufficient pressure
will fail to initiate fascial decompression. Fascia
contains a material known as ground substance.
When tissues release, this grounding material
goes from solid to liquid. Maximum therapeutic
effect occurs only if the therapist's insight
and intent are synchronous with the client's myofascial
needs.
Treatment experience is a relaxing
one. Wearing loose fitting clothing, the client
lies on a comfortable air filled treatment table
while the therapist palpates with anterior/posterior
hand placements. Adept therapists can palpate
the craniosacral rhythm anywhere in the body,
although evaluation is most commonly conducted
at the sacrum and neuro-cranium. The craniosacral
system is evaluated by considering rate, amplitude,
symmetry, and quality. Normal rate of the craniosacral
rhythm is 6 to 12 cycles per minute. Treatment
is a step by step process involving five hand
placements on the trunk and seven neuro-cranium
releases. Therapist palpates for soft tissue distortion
and imposes change without body invasion. Physical
and mental health is greatly improved after a
single session. If you have any questions or would
